Things are completely overwhelming these days. Any time you open your laptop, there are 45 petitions, 3 protests and 18 immediate actions you need to take to keep the world spinning. I don't think I'm the only one that is exhausted just trying to figure out how to get it all done, plus my normal full time job and some fun in life. Each week, I made a deal with myself to try three different things to make a positive difference and I will share them here so you have someplace to start. This will include actions you can take, non profits to learn about and support, articles or books to read, stores to shop at or maybe just happy stories to help inspire. If you have any, email them my way and I'll be happy to share them in a future week.
It's a rainy day in Brooklyn. I always find it easier to be productive on rainy days. Plus, it means that Spring has arrived and soon there will be blooms all over the city. Crazy that just a few weeks ago, I was writing about blizzards.
1. The Lonely Whale is launching their Summer 2017 initiation - #StrawlessOcean. I've talked about this organization before, but they are working on a new campaign to cut down on the usage of plastic straws. One of their celebrity spokespeople is Adrian Grenier who we love and have had awkward run ins with in the neighborhood (you can read that story here.) BUT, celebrity aside, Americans use 500 million plastic straws every day. I was always a fan of straws, but I've decided to stop purchasing them and to go without them when I'm out now. It's a little change that can make a difference. Join me.
2. Pod Save America is my new favorite podcast. They post new episodes on Mondays and Thursdays. I have been trying to figure out the best way to stay informed, but also remain a somewhat positive person. I enjoy listening to these guys. Sometimes I laugh, but most of the time, I'm just nodding along.
3. Check out 314 Action. It's time for us to stand up for science. Trump is working on changing legislation today that is in place to protect the environment. We need to stay informed on the issues, fight for the planet and spread the word.
Let me know if you've been able to check any of these recommendations out. Hope it's warm and dry wherever you are.
